My little children, I am writing this to you so that you may not sin.

but if anyone sins, we have an helper/intercessor with the father, Jesus Christ the righteous;

我小子們哪，我將這些話寫給你們，是要叫你們不犯罪。若有人犯罪，在父那裡我們有一位中保，就是那義者耶穌基督。

我的孩子們，我寫這些是要使你們不犯罪；如果有人犯罪，我們有一位公義的耶穌基督，替我們向天父陳情。

²  kai. auvto.j i`lasmo,j evstin peri. tw/n a`martiw/n h`mw/n( ouv peri. tw/n h`mete,rwn de. mo,non^mo,noj avlla. kai. peri. o[lou^o[loj tou/ ko,smouÅ  

and he is the expiation/propitiation/sin-offering for our sins, and not for/concerning ours only but also for/concerning the sins of the whole world.

他為我們的罪作了挽回祭，不是單為我們的罪，也是為普天下人的罪。

基督犧牲自己，贖了我們的罪；他不但為我們的罪，也為全人類的罪，犧牲自己。

³  Kai. evn tou,tw| ginw,skomen o[ti evgnw,kamen auvto,n( eva.n ta.j evntola.j auvtou/ thrw/men_假設法Å  

And in this we know that we have known him, if we continue to keep his commandments.

我們若遵守他的誡命，就曉得是認識他。

如果我們遵守上帝的命令，我們就知道我們認識他。

The one who says that “I have known him” but disobeys his commandments is a liar and the truth is not in him;

人若說我認識他，卻不遵守他的誡命，便是說謊話的，真理也不在他心裡了。

若有人說「我認識他」，卻不遵守他的命令，這樣的人是撒謊的，真理跟他沒有關係。

But whoever keeps his word, truly in him the love of God has been perfected, in this we know that we are in him.

凡遵守主道的，愛　神的心在他裡面實在是完全的。從此我們知道我們是在主裡面。

The one who says to remain in him have to walk in the same way as that man walked.

人若說他住在主裡面，就該自己照主所行的去行。

5-6 但那遵守上帝的道的人，他對上帝的愛就達到完全。那說他有上帝的生命的，應該照耶穌基督的言行生活；這樣，我們才有把握說，我們有他的生命。

Beloved, I am not writing to you a new commandment but an old commandment which you were having from the beginning; The old commandment is the word which you heard.

親愛的弟兄啊，我寫給你們的，不是一條新命令，乃是你們從起初所受的舊命令；這舊命令就是你們所聽見的道。

親愛的朋友們，我寫給你們的，不是新的命令，而是舊的命令，是你們一開始就領受的。這舊的命令是你們已經聽過了的信息。

Again/yet I am writing to you a new commandment, which is true in him and in you, because the heart passes(主動義) away and the true light already shines.

再者，我寫給你們的，是一條新命令，在主是真的，在你們也是真的；因為黑暗漸漸過去，真光已經照耀。

然而，我寫給你們的，也是新的命令；這命令的真理在基督身上，也在你們當中表現出來。因為黑暗正在消逝，真光已開始照耀。

The one who says to be in the light and the one who hates his brother is in the darkness still.

人若說自己在光明中，卻恨他的弟兄，他到如今還是在黑暗裡。

如果有人說他生活在光明中，卻恨自己的弟兄或姊妹，他仍然是在黑暗中。

The one who loves his brother remains in the light and in him/it/ there is no cause of stumbling.

愛弟兄的，就是住在光明中，在他並沒有絆跌的緣由。

愛弟兄姊妹的，就是生活在光明中，他不會使別人失足犯罪。

But the one who hates his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness and doesn’t know where he is going, because the darkness blinded his eyes.

惟獨恨弟兄的，是在黑暗裡，且在黑暗裡行，也不知道往那裡去，因為黑暗叫他眼睛瞎了。

可是，那恨弟兄或姊妹的，就是在黑暗中；他在黑暗中走，不知道自己往哪裏去，因為黑暗使他眼睛瞎了。

I am writing to you, little children, because the sins are forgiven to you on account of his name.

小子們哪，我寫信給你們，因為你們的罪藉著主名得了赦免。

孩子們，我寫信給你們，因為你們的罪已經藉著基督得到赦免。

I am writing to you, fathers, because you know the one from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one.

父老啊，我寫信給你們，因為你們認識那從起初原有的。少年人哪，我寫信給你們，因為你們勝了那惡者。

父老們，我寫信給你們，因為你們認識那位從太初就已經存在的。青年們，我寫信給你們，因為你們已經勝過了那邪惡者。

¹⁴  e;graya_aor. u`mi/n( paidi,a( o[ti evgnw,kate to.n pate,raÅ e;graya u`mi/n( pate,rej( o[ti evgnw,kate to.n avpV avrch/jÅ e;graya u`mi/n( neani,skoi( o[ti ivscuroi, <sup>ivscuro,j</sup> evste kai. o` lo,goj tou/ qeou/ evn u`mi/n me,nei kai. nenikh,kate to.n ponhro,nÅ  

I wrote to you, children, because you have known the father. I wrote to you, fathers, because you have known the one from the beginning. I wrote to you, young men, because you are strong and the word of God remains in you and you have overcome the evil one.

小子們哪，我曾寫信給你們，因為你們認識父。（放在13節）父老啊，我曾寫信給你們，因為，你們認識那從起初原有的。少年人哪，我曾寫信給你們；因為，你們剛強，　神的道常存在你們心裡；你們也勝了那惡者。

孩子們，我寫信給你們，因為你們認識天父。父老們，我寫信給你們，因為你們認識那位從太初就已經存在的。青年們，我寫信給你們，因為你們強壯；上帝的道活在你們的生命中，而你們已經勝過了那邪惡者。

Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of father is not in him;

不要愛世界和世界上的事。人若愛世界，愛父的心就不在他裡面了。

不要愛世界，或任何屬世的東西。如果你們愛世界，你們就沒有愛天父的心。

¹⁶  o[ti pa/n to. evn tw/| ko,smw|( h` evpiqumi,a th/j sarko.j kai. h` evpiqumi,a tw/n ovfqalmw/n kai. h` avlazonei,a tou/ bi,ou^bi,oj ( ouvk e;stin evk tou/ patro.j avllV evk tou/ ko,smou evsti,nÅ  

Because all that is in the world, the lust of flesh and the lust of the eyes and the arrogance of life/possession, is not from the father but is from the world.

因為凡世界上的事，就像肉體的情慾，眼目的情慾，並今生的驕傲，都不是從父來的，乃是從世界來的。

一切屬世的事物，好比肉體的慾望、眼目的慾望，和人的一切虛榮，都不是從天父來的，而是從世界來的。

¹⁷  kai. o` ko,smoj para,getai kai. h` evpiqumi,a auvtou/( o` de. poiw/n to. qe,lhma tou/ qeou/ me,nei eivj to.n aivw/naÅ

And the world passes and the the lust of it, but the one who does the will of God remains forever.

這世界和其上的情慾都要過去，惟獨遵行　神旨意的，是永遠常存。

這世界和一切屬世的慾望都正在消逝；但是，實行上帝旨意的人要永遠生存。
